Description

NVIDIA Mellanox® MIS5200Q-4DNC InfiniScale IV QDR InfiniBand Director Switch: This is a refurbished, fully-managed, rack-mountable QDR InfiniBand chassis switch built around the InfiniScale IV silicon. It is engineered to deliver 17.28 Tb/s of aggregate switching capacity across 216 QDR InfiniBand ports. This is a director-class chassis (the unit weighs 112 kg) and not a 1U top-of-rack switch; CXP-style high-density connectors carry the QDR fabric to ConnectX-2/ConnectX-3 hosts. Tested by experienced technicians and supplied in working order with minor cosmetic wear.

Engineering Context

InfiniScale IV is a 36-port crossbar ASIC family that scales out into multi-chip director chassis through a fat-tree backplane. With 17.28 Tb/s of aggregate throughput, this MIS5200Q-class platform served as a campus or row-level fabric core for HPC clusters in the QDR generation. The MIS5200Q-4DNC ships with four power supplies for redundancy, exposes a single management plane, and supports Quality of Service (QoS), high availability, and port mirroring through Mellanox subnet manager / UFM-class software.

Deployment & Use Cases

  • Core fabric replacement for legacy HPC clusters running ConnectX-2 / ConnectX-3 QDR HCAs.
  • University and research-lab teaching fabrics where current-generation HDR/NDR is overkill.
  • Migration spare during phased lift-and-shift from QDR to FDR or EDR backbones.
  • Disaster-recovery cold spare for production InfiniScale IV deployments still in service.

  • Port Count: 216
  • Switching Capacity: 17.28 Tb/s
  • Connector Type: CXP (with QSFP+ via splitter cabling)
  • Power Supplies: 4 (redundant)
  • Management: Single management plane, fully managed
  • Features: Quality of Service (QoS), high availability, port mirroring
  • Form Factor: Rack-mountable director chassis
  • Weight: 112 kg

Compatibility & Constraints

  • Compatible with QDR-capable InfiniBand hosts (Mellanox ConnectX-2 / ConnectX-3 era HCAs) and the OpenFabrics (OFED) software stack standard for that generation.
  • NOT compatible with FDR-only, EDR-only, HDR, or NDR speeds at line rate — this is a QDR-generation switch and links will negotiate down to the lowest common denominator. NOT a top-of-rack 1U platform; it requires director-class rack space and lifting equipment for installation. Cabling, transceivers, and subnet manager licenses are NOT included unless visibly shown.
